IE-Analyzer 4 Introduction Tour

If there is a software that analyzes the image quality of digital input devices according to the ISO standards it is the IE-Analyzer. This tool is developed by Image Engineering, an independent test lab in Germany that tests more than 200 different cameras per year and uses the software itself. 10 years of experience in camera and scanner testing are incorporated in the IE-Analyzer and in combination with the system test charts there is nothing comparable on the market. The principle: It is very easy to test a specific characteristic of a digital input device using the IE-Analyzer. Just take one or multiple pictures of the related test target under defined lighting conditions (by the way we also offer illumination systems like integrating spheres or our AF box.).

Open the image in the adequate software module, press the start button and a few seconds later the result will be displayed. End of March we will start shipping the new version IE-Analyzer 4 that supports a huge variety of test targets. You will get a newsletter with a more detailed description at that time.

Norterra Technologies Signs Distribution Agreement with Image Engineering

Norterra Technologies has been appointed the master distributor for the United States by German manufacturer, Image Engineering for the Esser Test Chart line. Image Engineering was established in 1997 to test digital cameras for magazines and manufacturers. In late 2005 they purchased Esser Test Charts and added it to their product mix. Today the company boasts an industry leading line of test charts and camera testing software and is very active in industry standards development. About Image Engineering: Image Engineering has been testing digital cameras since 1997 for magazines and manufacturers. Our background is testing the products internally and for this task we have developed software which analyzes captured images from all common sources.

Our innovative method to measure resolution using a sinusoidal siemens star will soon be integrated in the ISO 12233 resolution standard. Esser Test Charts which is now part of Image Engineering produces more than 200 test images, Ulbricht integrating spheres and lighting systems with extensive accessories for lighting the test charts. For some time Image Engineering has also offered test charts, lighting systems and complete test stands for testing digital cameras. Until recently this was only a secondary business that had developed out of our own quality requirements and requests from camera manufacturers. With the purchase of Esser Test Charts, the production of test materials is now a focus of our business. Through combining the test images with our own analysis software and through the expansion of the product line to specially produced test stands, Image Engineering is addressing additional markets.

The more pixels, the worse the images
It has been known for a couple of years now that increasing the number of pixels in digital cameras does not lead to better images. Therefore Image Engineering, an independent test lab, has set up a website which demonstrates and describes the problems caused by high pixel counts. The test lab hopes for wide support in the media in informing customers and utilizing a change in customer behavior in order to convince manufacturers to produce better cameras instead of those with a higher pixel count.

Image Engineering has launched a site dedicated to image quality. http://6mpixel.org/en/

Four additions to the Eyeheight range of HD, SD and multi-definition systems will be introduced to the UK broadcast and post-production market on Stand I-46 at BVE2009, Earls Court 2, London, February 17-19.

A globally-active innovator in broadcast-quality video and audio engineering, Eyeheight designs and manufactures a wide range of SDI/HD-SDI equipment for use in programme-origination, quality assurance, post-production, master-control and associated areas. Eyeheight products centre on a modular platform with Ethernet control and monitoring for easy connection to other devices and to external automation.

WORLDWIDE LAUNCH: UD-2 broadcast up/down converter

Making its first-ever exhibition appearance, Eyeheight's UD-2 is a high quality up/down converter with three-field temporal processing and 3:2-pulldown frame-rate conversion. Like all Eyeheight multidefinition products, the UD-2 is compatible with the 18 video standards currently in use across 525/625 SD as as 720p, 1080p and 1080i HD. Advanced video noise reduction features allow overall noise and artefacts associated with DCT compression to be minimised.

UK LAUNCH: Eyeheight LE-2MD multidefinition legaliser

Shown in prototype at IBC2008 and now in production, the LE-2MD is the smallest and most powerful legaliser in the Eyeheight range. It is compatible with all commonly-used signal standards from 525 and 625-line SD up to 720p and 1080i HD. Structured as two internal independent legalisers in series, the LE-2MD can be configured to operate in composite and RGB domains simultaneously, including conformity to the 75 per cent chroma settings commonly used in the USA, Japan and Australia.

UK LAUNCH: NB-9 nanoBox softPanel chassis

Optimised for desktop use in control-rooms, edit suites and graphic studios as well as on location, Eyeheight's NB-9 nanoBox softPanel chassis is a cost-efficient and compact free-standing housing which will accommodate any of Eyeheight's range of single-height cards. These include legalisers, safe-area-generators and SDI-embedded audio shufflers. Control of nanoBox is via Eyeheight's softPanel software which can run in a Java 1.5 environment on any standard PC.

UK LAUNCH: SA-2U 4:4:4 dual-link safe-area/graticule generator

Eyeheight's SA-2U is a 4:4:4 dual-link capable graticule/safe-area and blanking generator. It is designed for SD, HD-SDI, multi-definition (single-link) and 2K dual-link post-production applications. The SA-2U generates safe action graticules, safe title and centre markers (short and full screen) for all common TV and film formats. The SA-2U is capable of handling 2048 x 1080 ('2k') and 1920 x 1080 SMPTE 274M HD signals as well as 4:3 up to 16:9 SD and includes operational blanking control.

Eyeheight will be represented at BVE2009 by Martin Moore, Gilbert Viegas and Linda Underwood.
